Leadership Retreats in Marrakesh
(and beyond)
Immersive retreats for leaders and teams, designed to make change happen, and make it last.
Most development happens in a meeting room, squeezed between other meetings, and most of it fades within weeks. The same pressures, habits and triggers are waiting at the door.
A retreat changes the conditions. Whether it is a senior team, a newly formed team, a group of high-potential leaders or a team facing a big shift, the work goes deeper and moves faster when people step fully out of their everyday lives.
Faster
Shifts that would take months back home can happen in days, when attention is undivided.
Deeper
The work reaches below insight, to the habits, beliefs and automatic reactions that drive behaviour.
Lasting
New patterns are practised and embedded before you go home, not left as good intentions.
IMMERSION
Where change begins
From the moment you step into the medina, the familiar falls away. New sights, sounds, smells and tastes, a different rhythm and a different language: the brain has to pay attention again.
Walking in the mountains, sharing food and resting well give mind and body time to process what has shifted, so new habits can settle before you return.
What the science tells us
01
Habits live in context
Our routines are triggered by familiar places, people and cues. Change the context and old habits lose their grip, which is why change is so much harder to start at your desk.
02
Novelty opens the brain
New experiences release dopamine, making the brain more receptive to learning and more willing to form new connections.
03
Calm makes room for change
Under pressure, the brain defaults to old patterns. In a calm state, the thinking brain can reflect, choose and rewire.
04
The body embeds it
Movement, rest and sleep consolidate learning, so new ways of thinking and responding become automatic.
Old neural pathways quieten when they are no longer fed. New ones grow stronger each time they are used.
How we work
Insight is only the beginning. Alongside Hogan and other evidence-based tools, we draw on a wide range of experiential techniques that work with the body and the unconscious mind as well as the thinking mind. A completely different environment often sparks the moments of clarity that daily life does not, and we make sure they turn into lasting change.
The value for everyone
Away from roles and job titles, people see each other differently. Shared experiences and challenges build trust quickly. With expert facilitation, conversations that have been avoided can happen safely, and the group returns with a shared story and a shared commitment. Each leader also returns with a clearer understanding of what drives them, how they come across and what they will do differently.
Seven days, and what comes after
A retreat typically runs for seven days or longer, so there is time to arrive properly, go deep and leave ready.
Arrive and settle
Recover from travel, adjust to the time zone and begin to slow down.
On-boarding
Setting intentions, building trust and individual Hogan feedback.
Core programme
Team Engineering or Leading with Awareness, woven together with immersion.
Integration
Turning insight into commitments, and a plan to take home.
Back home
Follow-up coaching and group sessions to embed the change.
Where a retreat is part of a wider Fractional HR assignment, the follow-through is built in.
Why Marrakesh
For most retreats we recommend Marrakesh, because the city itself is a central part of the immersion. Morocco is easy to reach, with short flights from across Europe and good connections from most major cities further afield. Marrakesh is just one enticing option, though, and we are happy to discuss other locations to suit your needs and aspirations.
Accommodation is typically in a private boutique riad, with a local concierge looking after your group throughout.
